Antique French Bowl, Choisy le Roi Pottery
Choisy le Roi Pottery Rooster Bowl.
A very rare find! This antique French bowl was created by Choisy le Roi Pottery, it has a lovely tea-stained crazing throughout, and a striking hand painted motif.
The interior depicts a large cockerel and the sides are painted with a simple leaf and berries motif.
The base is stamped with the makers mark "Choisy le Roi, Terre de Fer, France" as well as the "A5" - this mark dates the bowl to arround 1878. Choisy le Roi produced pottery from 1805 until 1910- they produced detailed majolicaware often depicting birds and fruit.
This particular bowl has been well loved, there are chips to the base and rim throughout (shown) and two large historic cracks- the cracks were once repaired and an old staple still remains! All of this is reflected in the overall price.
This would make a lovely fruit bowl or simply hang on the wall to display- it's a beautiful piece of vintage decor for any home.
