Carved Oak Shelf.

A very special find, this dark oak sconce is a striking shield shape that has been hand carved throughout.

Circa late 1880s, this was salvaged from a church in Clifton, Bristol- seen very faintly written on the reverse with pencil, I believe this was taken from Christ Church in Clifton Down, due to the gothic architecture and style of interiors. Churches often sold unused decor to raise funds.

In great condition, the front is very tidy- the oak is stained dark and there is historic woodworm on the reverse and a chip, which is not noticeable from the front.

There is a hole on the top for hanging on a wall, this makes a lovely antique addition to any home.

Shield Measures-
Height- 30cm / 12"
Width- 22cm / 8"
Depth- 12cm / 4.5"
