Study Of an Old Man Oil Painting- Artist J. D. Castro.

Created using oil paints, this striking portrait depicts an older Filipino man with a concerned expression, wearing a straw hat against a warm grey background.

Painted onto canvas, the bottom right is signed 'J. D. Castro, 62'- this has a cardboard back and would benefit from being framed. There is a tiny dent above the hat string (shown) which is reflected in the overall price.

Jose D. Castro, 1908 - 1994, was born in the Philippines and started sketching at the age of ten, he soon moved onto painting and became known for his beautiful still life artworks, often depicting fruit, vegetables and floral arrangements. Over the years Castro also produced a number of portraits, land scapes and nature scenes- in 1968 he received the "Most Outstanding Still-life Painter" award at the Luneta Summer Art Exhibit. 

A lovely piece of art, this is a real collectible- it's perfect for placing on a shelf or hanging on the wall and makes a great piece of vintage decor for any home.
